#PitchWars Mentee Bio

8:19:00 PM

A month ago, I had never heard of Pitch Wars. Today, I'm sitting here pretending not to freak out about the fact that the first chapter of my manuscript has left the safety of my documents folder. Fly, little bird.

So, this is me. Katelyn Sather. I've never been particularly skilled in the whole "tell me about yourself" part of life, so let's see how this goes. I seriously just figured out how to use gifs ten minutes ago. Life's about learning, my friends. Learning and books.

The quickest way to get to know me would probably be to sit through the entirety of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and understand that Pippin the hobbit and I are pretty much the same person. (I realize that's over ten hours of your life, but it's pretty spot on.) I love food. All of the food. All of the time. I'm endlessly curious and always getting into some sort of 'how did i make it this far in life' situation. However, when I'm not worrying about second breakfast, I seek adventure and love making people laugh. I would storm the Black Gate for my friends any day.

I recently graduated with a degree in Video and Motion Graphics. I have carried heavy production equipment around the country telling stories, whether it be a promotional piece in the mountains of Tennessee, a documentary behind the stage of the Minnesota FFA Convention, or a murder scene in a hotel bathroom in Chicago. I love looking at my surroundings and seeing all the potential they could become on screen. However, in recent months, writing has been my whole world.

My submission for Pitch Wars is a YA action/adventure. There are a lot of futuristic YA novels out there that mention an event long ago that brought their world to its current state. My book is the story of that event. It follows a girl who has survived a mass exodus and finds herself in the hands of the people responsible. It's a story four years in the making, and I am so excited to take the next step in sharing it with the world.

When I'm not writing, I love pulling weeds out of flower beds and scrolling through the horror section of Netflix. I try to read from a diverse selection of books, but my favorite book of all time will always be The Road by Cormac McCarthy. It is brave and daring and gritty in a very authentic way. I also paint and walk my dog and listen to songs about finding love and losing minds. I own twelve t-shirts from The Hunger Games franchise and I was once almost arrested in the Valley of the Kings. If you ever meet me in person, I'll jump up and down if you mention one of my fictional husbands (especially Stiles from Teen Wolf. He's mine).

So why on earth should you pick me as a mentee? WELL.
This is a project that I have loved and cared about for years, and I'm willing to work to make it the absolute best it can be. I truly believe in my characters with all my heart and am so enthusiastic to improve and move their stories forward. I welcome criticism and will be fully invested in what is best for the novel. This is my dream, and I'm ready to make it happen.

There you go. Check out all of the other awesome people taking part in this here: http://christopherkeelty.com/pitchwars-2015-pimpmybio-contestant-blog-hop/
And thank you for stopping by my odd little life. Man, these gifs are just so fun, aren't they?
